There is an urgent need to draw closer and understand the value of educational advancement for a better future

How beautiful and spiritually fulfilling it is to foster learning in others, to pave the way, and to watch them grow in pursuit of their dreams and aspirations. The College Savings Division of the Nevada State Treasurer is a magnificent example of all that can be done for people’s education. Offering scholarships and timely information related to financial aid is a priority, along with encouraging children to save, set goals, and aspire to pursue higher education. Education is vital.

One of the aspects that generally characterizes those who decide to start a family is the preparation for their children’s future.

This includes creating financial funds to ensure the cost of higher education. By applying for scholarships, families have many opportunities to save money within their household economy.

Families invest today with their children’s future in mind

Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer of the College Saving Division of the Nevada Treasury, stated:

“We offer scholarships, we offer information on financial aid. We have a program called College Kickstart, where we give every kindergarten student in the state $50 to start saving for college. We also have what we call Nevada Prepaid Tuition. Nevada Prepaid Tuition is now open, and it’s a great opportunity for families to lock in the price of tuition today for their little ones later on. So I always tell people that I purchased a prepaid tuition account for my daughter when she was born, in 2018, and I was able to lock in that price, and by the time she’s in the fifth grade, her prepaid tuition will be paid off.”

The Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship was created in 1999 and remains in place, with the goal of providing funds to Nevada high school graduates pursuing higher education at eligible institutions within the state.

Dr. Mathis-Coleman stated that those interested in obtaining more information about their children’s higher education, if they feel more comfortable communicating in Spanish, can call (702) 486-3955 or visit the NVIGATE.gov website. “We recommend scheduling an appointment. Our community outreach team aims to be present in the community, visit churches and schools, and provide accessible resources to families”.

College Saving Division of the Nevada Treasury will award two educational scholarships on Sunday, April 26, during the El MUNDIALITO youth soccer final at the UNLV fields. The sporting event is organized by El Nuevo Mundo Media Group.
