Seniors Law Program is offering help…

Legally Informed in Our Later Years

Old age is a stage of life associated with wisdom, as well as increased risk of illness due to the natural process of existence. For this reason, we are sometimes exposed to situations for which we are not sufficiently prepared.

There is an org anization in Nevada that h e l p s o l d e r adults resolve legal matters: SLP (Seniors Law Program). Mariteresa Rivera Rogers, an attorney and president of its executive board, offers further details:

“Through SLP, we help with any legal matter that a person over the age of 60 may have. We do not consider income; all the assistance we provide is free. Our staff is trained to advise and help resolve cases involving evictions, matters related to Medicare… and we also assist veterans.”

R e g a r d i n g other services they provide, she added: “This legal assistance includes estate planning, drafting wills, and taking all the necessary steps, whether to transfer property or address healthcare needs. The latter involves preparing a legal power of attorney when an older adult wishes to appoint someone to access their health information and make decisions during critical moments.”

A particularly sensitive issue for society involves the care of abuse of elder adults. Does SLP of Southern Nevada handle these cases?

“There are cases”, she says, “of people who are mistreated due to negligence or are wrongfully evicted; those individuals also need help. Some,” she assures, “have been victims of scams and fraud. That is why it is important to educate them and provide tools so they can remain independent and feel secure.”

At SLP offices, assistance is provided with the preparation of wills and the transfer of property. This organization operates in all counties located in Southern Nevada: Clark, Esmeralda, Nye, and Lincoln.

From the age of 60 onward, human beings are given another opportunity to grow richer in wisdom and to celebrate the present with a renewed zest for life, while also becoming informed about legal matters that bring peace of mind to their daily lives.

These are options, possibilities, and tools of indispensable value that prove extremely useful, especially for those in the so-called “older adults” , the most vulnerable, who require assistance, knowledge, and a helping hand.
